"That is, without a doubt, the worst pirate I have ever seen."

When I was little, I walked on my tip-toes and tried my best to avoid walking barefoot on the grass. I was a bit of a priss (and still am!) I do not eat fish, nor do I so much as dip my toes in the Jersey shore water. So you can imagine everyone's surprise when I declared that I was moving to a Caribbean island. This journal is to document my significant (and not so significant) encounters and experiences, as well as record my imminent culture shock. I hope you find my reflections enjoyable and, in all probability, comical. Yo ho!

"Somebody's gotta nail that girl's fins to the floor..."

Booked my flight - it's official! September 20th is my departure date!

WOOHOO! :)

25 August, 2008

"Truth be told, I've never sailed a day in me life. I think I should get out and see the world while I'm still young."

And so my journey begins... metaphorically, of course. I won't be leaving until about the 16th of September, but due to my eager nature, I am already gathering everything I could possibly need. I am trying to figure out a convenient (and lightweight) way to fit my entire life (best friend included) into my Samsonite 29" expandable rolling suitcase and one Le SportSac carry-on duffle. However, I don't think I can fit my 14 maillots, 37 knit dresses, 23 toiletry bottles and law-school-student-best-friend (however tiny and compact she may be) into my luggage. So my mother has suggested that I start packing now (yes, on August 25th, twenty-two days before my departure) so that I can "figure out exactly what is needed." I have to say though, the best part about this is that all of the summer clothing and accessories are on major end-of-season discount, so I have been gobbling up quite a lot more to add to my suitcase... I figure I won't be shopping in three weeks at all, so I have to get it all in now!

Place to stay: check. Suitcase: check. Things to fill suitcase: checks galore! Savings: check. Job: we're working on that. "Come soon," as they say. Come soon.
